On 25 May 2023, the Clarendon community came together to establish regional and rural scholarships for students who would otherwise be unable to access a Clarendon education.
During Clarendon’s second 24-hour Annual Giving Day, current and past parents, Old Collegians, staff members, students, and friends of Clarendon, raised an outstanding $167,580 from a total of 224 donations, reflecting the community’s commitment to educational access and opportunity. This was also made possible with the help of matching donors, which saw every gift doubled up to $150,000.
The Clarendon Regional and Rural Scholarships aim to provide regional students with the opportunity to become a part of a school community that nurtures their growth and supports them to unlock their full potential while experiencing an education that empowers students from regional areas to thrive in a supportive learning environment.
A significant component of a regional students’ experience at Clarendon is being a part of the boarding community, which plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging and home away from home.
“We pride ourselves on creating a safe and inclusive culture where students have a voice and get the opportunity to contribute in key decision making processes,” said Old Collegian, past boarder and, now, Head of Boarding, Michael Searl (2002). “Our boarders are encouraged to embrace their community. From playing music, participating in drama and team sport, to reaching out and immersing themselves with our local community through giving time, joining local sporting clubs and other community clubs.”
The 2023 Annual Giving Campaign saw significant involvement from students, including boarders, Lozz Muvengi (Y11), Joel Freijah (Y12) and Claudia Lopez O’Donnell (Y12). Students were active in promoting the campaign and assisted parent volunteers with a sausage sizzle, which saw Middle and Senior School students raise over $1,000 for the scholarships.
Thank you to everyone who donated and for being a part of this life-changing opportunity for Clarendon’s future students. The establishment of the Clarendon Regional and Rural Scholarships is a testament to our community’s commitment to creating a future filled with possibilities.
